Counterpart Fund

 

The Counterpart Fund is a special Fund originated by the reimbursement of the resources received as credit by the private beneficiaries of the Commodity Aid Programme.

The Counterpart Fund is aimed at promoting initiatives with social-economic priority requirements, with special reference to sectors particularly vulnerable as those of the environment and of the promotion of the social role of women.

 

ELIGIBLE BENEFICIARIES

  • International and local Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) legally registered at the proper Authority of the Egyptian Government;

  • Local associations and Non-profit organizations;

  • Government-owned Organizations and Governmental Authorities.

 

WHAT KIND OF INITIATIVES BE FUNDED

The funding proposals submitted by the applicants shall be aimed at pursuing at least one of the following targets:

Protecting the environment;

Promoting the social role of women;

As exception the Management Committee can also approve the following initiatives:

a. Local costs of cooperation bilateral projects financed by the Italian Government referred to bilateral cooperation initiatives and\or Projects financed by the Italian Government;

b. Participation to the interventions achieved within the framework of emergency situations;

c. Completion of interventions achieved within the framework of bilateral cooperation projects financed by the Italian Government; management and distribution costs in Egypt for emergency aid of Italian origin;

d. Participation to "special funds" which shall be constituted by the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt within the framework of measures which shall be taken with a view to reduce social effects due to the application of: economic programmes of public expenditure planning or to the application of the current Structural Adjustment programmes.

 

WHAT CAN BE FUNDED

 

WHAT CANNOT BE FUNDED

 - Non essential and luxury goods;

-  Any good, material or service related, directly or indirectly, to activities of military nature.

 

APPLICATION FOR FUNDING

Filled in Application form addressed to:

The Management Joint Committee (MJC) of the Commodity Aid Programme Counterpart Fund to the Embassy of Italy in Cairo, Cooperation Office and a copy to the Ministry of International Cooperation, for addresses see the Contacts section.

 

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:

1. Carefully read the Guidelines and the other information contained in this web page, to verify the eligibility criteria;

2. Contact the Embassy of Italy,  Cooperation Office or the Person in Charge at the Ministry of International Cooperation, to introduce the funding proposal and request, in principle, a positive consideration of the project, in accordance with the priorities and eligibility criteria listed in this page;

3. Download the application form and the Financial Planning Templates and submit the request, to the Ministry of International Cooperation and the Embassy of Italy, Cooperation Office;

4. Upon positive feedback received from the MJC, the Applicant shall be requested to sign the Project Agreement.

5. After signing the Agreement the Applicant, become beneficiary, will receive the first instalment to start the project activities which report them according to the Guidelines and Financial Reporting Templates.
