General Information

The aim of the Programme is to improve the Balance of Payments of the Egyptian State, to spur distribution and production process of wealth by local SMEs, in order to create employment and reduce poverty. Moreover it is aimed at promoting partnerships between Italian and local enterprises.

The Commodity Aid Porgramme funds the acquisition of commodities manufactured in Italy by Egyptians stockholders according to the procedures contained in the Intergovernmental Agreement between the Egyptian and the Italian Government.

The applicants belonging to the Public Sector receive the funds as grant, while the applicants belonging to the Private Sector receive the funds as credit.

The funds received as credit by the applicants belonging to the Private Sector are reimbursed to the Egyptian Government and saved in a special bank account, they originate the fund named Counterpart Fund.

The associations, NGO's and non profit organization applying to the Counterparts funds receive the funds as grant.

PRIORITIES:

- Agriculture and Irrigation;

- Industry including Tourism;

- Energy;

- Health;

- Environment (eligible costs in the main fund, but priority only for the Counterpart funds);

- Promotion of the social role of women (eligible costs in the main fund, but priority only for the Counterpart funds;

- Local costs and items within projects realized on behalf of the Italian Cooperation (eligible costs in the main fund, but priority only for the counterpart funds).
